But, then a split second later for the parents, who daily surrender their children into the Lord’s hands...who pray they’ll return safely at the end of the day. And, not to mention the teachers...and all the faculty and staff...and…and... Lord where do we even begin to fight this battle of injustice?!? The answer came softly but with great peace… We begin on our knees. We begin by joining together, arm in arm. We begin by lifting up in one voice, one body of believers, one spirit, begging for a change. And, so we did. We hosted a night of prayer for the families of the local schools...and invited parents and students alike, teachers and ministers, volunteers and friends. In that sanctuary, we lifted our voices and believed Jesus when he said, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” In planning our night of prayer, I searched through my Bible for passages, and my book of common prayer, looking for some type of guide, knowing already that I would not find a guide for “how to pray for school injustices”. However, that is where we are in our day in age. We are faced with racism, violence, and injustice, in our schools, and we have to stand against it. We cannot sit back and continue to think we won’t be affected or that it won’t happen at “our school”. We cannot wait around for answers to come through politicians and government officials. We cannot stand by, and somehow believe that someone else will do the work that needs to be done. Like, David, we must take up our sword and fight this giant of injustice. We must believe that Our God is a God who saves, and pierces His light into any darkness. We have to begin to pray like He is able to make a difference...because HE IS! Even though it grieved me to have to write one, I was thankful for the way that we could use this prayer guide to bring our supplications to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Feel free to download and use as you would like for a prayer time for your schools. May we begin to see the Lord answer these prayers, and bring healing to our land. For He is our only Hope.
